| What is Smoother? |
Smoother is a Windows application that
works with a series of data points with given N (northing), E (easting),
and H (height). The N and E coordinates are normally map projection
coordinates, and the H value is normally the height of the point.
Smoother helps you edit your data points with the help of a "moving
least squares polynomial" and is designed to work quickly even with tens
of thousands of such data points. Once a set of points is loaded, you
can use the "Smooth" tab to view and edit your points, and then you can
use the "Interpolate" tab to produce a smoothed set of points (with a
specified spacing) that represent the original set of points.

Smoother can be used, for
example, by hydrographers who collect soundings along lake crossing
lines. It can save you a lot of time.

| Smoother Testimonial |
Dear Dr.
Robin Steeves:
I recently performed a hydrographic survey of several lakes in the
Central Florida area. The project, like all hydrographic surveys,
produced an extreme amount of data. I began with the tedious task of
processing the data and weeding out the outliers using software
developed by the manufacturer of the guidance system. However, I found
myself with such a large data set that most mapping software could not
manage the data. It was at this pivotal point that I realized I would
need to decimate the data but still preserve the symmetry of the lake
bottom.
With the use of your program, "Smoother", I was able to handle this
process. Your program saved me several hours of data processing and
improved the final product. "Smoother" is very versatile and
user-friendly, and it is a must-have for bathymetric surveying.
Sincerely,
Chris Lindstedt PSM
